GEO-Centers Announces Summer 2004 Intern Program

Isn't it time that you gained some research experience?

If you're a science or engineering student who is exploring future career opportunities, GEO-CENTERS' 2004 Summer Intern Research Program is for you!

Join us and gain valuable on-the-job research experience at one of the Nation's top government research laboratories.

Program Description:

GEO-CENTERS' 2004 Summer Intern Research Program is a 10-week program that provides students with an immersion in scientific research at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) located in Washington, DC. Selected students will work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment that will give them the opportunity to make long-lasting contacts with other students and scientists.

“Regarding last summer, I really enjoyed working at NRL. Actually, I have been telling all my friends about the environment at NRL, how everyone is friendly and helpful—so different from corporate workplace. I really want to come back and work there again.”

G. Puri, Summer Intern 2002
New Jersey Institute of Technology

Qualifying students will be selected by sponsoring scientists to work on a scientific project. An on-site senior scientific member of our staff will provide additional scientific support and mentorship to the student. At the end of the Program, each student will be expected to present a report on the results of his or her research in a mini-symposium. The student will receive a $4,000 stipend for the 10 weeks, which begin on June 1, 2004 and end on August 6, 2004.

To apply for the Program, please mail or e-mail your resume to the name and address on the bottom of this page. Please also note if you will need housing. The application deadline is May 24, 2004.

Student Housing:

“Again, thanks so much for the opportunity to work at NRL — it was a great experience.”

S. Mitchell, Summer Intern 2003
Texas A&M University

Housing is available for the duration of the 10-week Program, and housing information will be forwarded to selected students as needed.

Dormitory housing is provided at the Catholic University in Northeast Washington, DC. The tree-lined, 144-acre Catholic University campus is located approximately three miles north of the U.S. Capitol. Nearby amenities to the campus include numerous monuments and museums, free concerts, international dining, and access to research facilities. Single rooms, meal plans and parking are available on campus. A Metro subway station is conveniently located at the Catholic University and is an alternative to driving to NRL.

Program extensions can be arranged depending upon the student and sponsor schedules. However, housing cannot be extended beyond August 6th, 2004. Students will pay for a share of their housing costs and are responsible for their own meals and transportation.
